Time flies

OK! Finished up my game contract on Friday, had a nice weekend, then missed Monday and most of this morning feelin sick once again. I really got to nail down wtf this headache/nausea thing is about cause it sucks. Ah well. Tomorrow I'll get my ass down to the unemployment office and see if I can get back on it. Also am barking up some trees looking for more work.

Justin & I finally got served with foreclosure papers, so now we gotta get minor legal advice on how to write back to say 'OK take house but ffs don't try to get 99k out of us on top of that cause we will die'. I'm really unclear on all this. :( But if bankruptcy will get me clear that'd be easy, since right now my life savings is like $2000 and I think it costs something like that to file for bankruptcy anyway. At least my credit card is clear now; I know CC debt sticks with you through bankruptcy. And we gotta figure out how much longer Scott's going to be able to stay at our place before they evict, so he has time to get his stuff out, etc.

So yeah that's a whole lot of fun.

I'm going down to Sarasota for March 17-21 or so and then to Gainesville, though, so that will be fun. Dad's sailing in Sarasota that weekend and I'll drive with him back to Gainesville to hang out with the 'rents for the week. I miss Florida. It's FUCKING SNOWING again here in Georgia.

I finally checked out the 'recobbled cut' of Thief and the Cobbler.. Hm. The Princess is a much cooler character in this incarnation, the lack of songs is nice, I don't mind the lack of Matthew Broderick, and it's WAY better without Phido having a voice. But I'm torn on the Thief. His scenes do kind of drag without any narration. However, the cut scene of the Thief being caught and taken to the square to have his hands cut off, omg wtf gold.

Peter Gabriel has a new disc out but I'm not really feelin' it. :(

Been checking out a little more Doctor Who audio stuff: finally listened to the first two in the Unbound series. These are COMPLETE AUs with randomly cool actors as AU Doctors. The second one, "Sympathy for the Devil" is pretty damn awesome, with David Warner (BTAS's Ra's Al Ghul, Freakazoid's The Lobe) as an AU Third Doctor, and David Tennant in the supporting cast.

Also tried the audiobook "Prisoner of the Daleks", a Tenth Doctor story read brilliantly by Nicholas Briggs, who is one of those guys I have wanted to squeeze since the early 90's because he is so fanboy and adorable. He does most of the Dalek voices in New Who, so the Daleks in this are great of course, and his Tenth DOctor is a damn good impression as well. Fun story. A bit anti-torture too which is fun with current events in the US, all trying to be like BUT BUT LOOK IT'S TOTES NOT A WAR CRIME THE WAY WE DID IT. BESIDES YOU'D TORTURE SOMEBODY TO SAVE UR BABY WOULDN'T YOU WOULDN'T YOU YOU WOULD SO THERE. Seriously, "24" seems to have brain damaged half the US. Whereas every actual seasoned expert on interrogation ever seems to be like 'No, no, no, you get way better intel out of bad cop/good cop. I know this, from my learnings.'

Berserk is on break again but continues to completely rock. They just landed in goddamned Innsmouth.

Aw, am sorry I can't offer any elp or advice on the foreclosure front. :( I hope you have a good time with your folks!

I've been meaning to ask! Where does one get Doctor Who audio stuff? If you have a recommended site or store, we would appreciate a link very much! We really have no idea where to start looking.

No trouble, and thanks!

My favorite way to get the Big Finish Audio stuff is to purchase the downloadable ones from the Big Finish site. I don't think they have a specific list of which ones are downloadable, but there aren't all that many that are CD-only. For instance, there are only like three from their archive of 1 - 75 from the main series that you can't download. Their prices for the physical CD's are pretty competitive too. They don't seem to be any higher than WHONA's prices - I checked one of my faves and it was $25 after shipping at both stores, and $21 from several Amazon.com resellers... but only $12 for the Big Finish site mp3 download.

They also offer most of the Episode 1's for a dollar. :D

If you want any recs or reviews, I've listened to damn near all of them. Just ask! :D

Most of the other audio stuff (like the Tenth Doctor audiobooks) seems to be priced pretty well on Amazon.

Thanks for the link and the info!

I'm kind of leaning towards getting some Eighth Doctor stuff, since I feel bad that I don't really have a "feel" for him. Also, buying anything related to the Eighth Doctor will increase the chances that Character Options will release an Eighth Doctor figure, just as clapping will revive fairies.

Quick recs for Eight then!

I wouldn't go for any of the season downloads, cause IMO the stories vary a lot. From the New Season stuff (the Eight and Lucie Miller stories - set between the TV movie and the Big Finish stories with Charley) I'd rec:

1.1 & 1.2 Blood of the Daleks
Introduces Lucie Miller and is a pretty good Dalek story to boot.

1.3 Horror of Glam Rock
A decent 'base under siege' story.

2.3 Brave New Town
I found this one very neat. Unfolding Mystery story.

3.6 The Cannibalists
Odd and a bit cartoony. I liked it a lot.

Now we skip ahead/back to the Big Finish range: Eight and Charley Pollard.

16. Storm Warning
Not my favorite story, but it's OK, and introduces Charley and the Vortisaur and lots of the plot elements that tie up Charley and Eight and half the freaking universe throughout their continuity.

17. Sword of Orion
A not-bad Cyberman story.

28. Invaders From Mars
Silly. Manhattan 1938. Orson Welles is a major character.

29. The Chimes of Midnight
Chilling and weird and awesome. Unfolding Mystery story. Sort of the beginning of the Doctor-you-done-fucked-up story arc with Charley.

30. Seasons of Fear and 31. Embrace the Darkness are good but CD-only.

32. The Time of the Daleks
I dug this one. WEIRD. Has bits that tie into Seasons of Fear.

33. Neverland
Romana shows up. I dig this one quite a bit as well.

50. Zagreus
Mixed fan reaction. Personally I loved it. Lots of fans pissed they got so many DW actors and then gave them new roles instead of reprising their traditional ones.

52. Scherzo
Fucking trippy. Also the most emotional the Doctor had ever gotten up till then. He is V V Byronic, lol.

Thus begins the Divergence story arc which imo kind of sucks. Let's just say they pick up Kerriz early on and leave it at that.

63. Caerdroia
The only fun Divergent Universe story. Eight is still looking for his lost TARDIS.

77. Other Lives
Weird but a neat, um, divergence from the usual DW plots. A bit Black Orchid-ey. Anyway this is after the Divergent Universe arc, and they're back in the normal universe again.

83. Something Inside
If you like McGann Screaming this is the audio for you. Kind of relentlessly dark.

88. Memory Lane
Another Unfolding Mystery. I can dig it.

103. The Girl Who Never Was
AWESOME. In the previous story (Absolution, which I didn't enjoy much) Kerriz has left, Charley is all butthurt and Eight is like I'M TRYING TO FORGET ABOUT THAT OK and Angst Ensues. Also it's awesome.

At that point you'll want to switch over to Six with 105. The Condemned. Which is also awesome. And then pretty much all of the subsequent Sixth Doctor stories.

ETA: eeeeeeeeeeee they have the info up for the three Six + Jamie stories starting in April yayayayayayayayayay

And also, there's the Downloadable Subscription offers: those give you a huge discount for any 6 or 12 stories in a row starting with any main range title from #100-current.

I think I will be doing that the moment #133 is available as the starting title, because the six after that are 3x Six & Jamie and 3x Five and Tegan+Turlough+Nysaa omg omg omg omg <3<3<3

Do you think the headache/nausea thing might be sinus problems? I've had that off and on for years, I'll wake up with a sinus headache and I'll be nauseaous from post-nasal drip. It's usually seasonal for me, and the dry winter months are the worst. Maybe try taking a decongestant before bed one night and see if it helps?

Thanks for the lead, but the nausea seems to come directly from the headache for me. It's the behind-the-eyeball and down-one-side-of-the-neck style headache, it kind of responds to plain aspirin but not really to anything else, it kills my appetite, and if I move at all it makes me want to hurl.. Yey! XD

I thought it might be related to irregular eating, then I thought it might be related to eating food that was too oily/greasy, then I thought it might be hormonal, but the only thing that stays consistent about it is that it usually happens on weekends, or when I'm on vacation and having a really nice time, so maybe it's de-stressing-related somehow. What a pain in the ass. XD

If it has nothing to do with oily/greasy stuff then you can continue to eat fries! Hooray!

...actually I don't recommend it. Even though fries are too tasty to live.

Eeeeep, I hate those. I used to get those as a result of trying to sleep off the sinus headaches, often when I slept they'd just mutate into something much, much worse until I got smart and started taking Advil before bed any time I had even the slightest trace of a headache.

Boo to confusing adult money problems. Boo to sickness. Be rid of problems. Be unsick. *wiggles fingers with waves of yay* Liiiiiiive.

You do not like Peter Gabriel's new CD! Gasp. :( I liked the two songs I heard out of it... but I suppose they're both incredibly mellow-sounding and if the whole CD's like that... sad.

(Lol Lith in snow)

Hee, thanks Pupp.

I haven't heard the whole thing either, I just am not really diggin' the overwrought-vocals-with-string-arrangement thing he's got going on.

Did you watch Thief and the Cobbler on YouTube? I had never even seen the officially released version when Clay Croker mentioned the movie in a panel at Dragon*Con. When I got home, I watched the unfinished version bit by bit. I remember being struck by the crazy perspective shots and by Vincent Price's typical bad-assery.

Nah, downloaded the ISO. But yeah, it's the 3rd ed by the same guy. Trip-PAY. Price is just as badass in the official version but the rest of the film isn't nearly as good.
